Songs for Weddings

Wedding music.๐ŸŽถ If you’re getting married you’re probably up to your eyeballs in websites and magazines giving you lists and advice about your music choice.

๐ŸŽตLists of the most popular music are often shared, and whilst they can be helpful, I also see that they make some couples feel like they need to conform to “mainstream” music.

Please don’t!

Your music should reflect you and your relationship.

It may be that you had you first dance together in a car to Womack & Womack (looking at you there E ๐Ÿ˜‰), you may adore Oasis and want the Masterplan to accompany you up the aisle (*nods to V*), you may want to sashay up the aisle dramatically to Bittersweet Symphony (impressive P) or boogie your way up the aisle together accompanied by Touch & Go (G, loved this!)

Things to consider

  1. Sentimental Value: Start by thinking about songs that hold special meaning for both of you. Maybe it’s the song that was playing on your first date or the one that always gets you both dancing like nobody’s watching in the living room.

  2. Lyrics Matter: Pay attention to the lyrics. You don’t want to choose a song that sounds romantic but is actually about heartbreak and betrayal. Unless you’re going for irony, of course!

  3. Match the Mood: Consider the vibe you want for your wedding. Are you going for a classic, romantic feel or something more lively and fun? The song should match the overall atmosphere.

  4. Dance-ability: If you’re planning to have a first dance, make sure the song is danceable โ€“ unless you’re secretly a professional ballroom dancer or you want to give your guests a good laugh.

  5. Crowd Pleaser: Think about your guests. A good wedding song is one that resonates with most of the people in the room. You want everyone to feel the love.

  6. Length Matters: Keep in mind the song’s duration. You don’t want your first dance to turn into a marathon.

  7. Customize it: If you can’t find the perfect song, consider customizing it. Many artists offer acoustic versions or unique covers that can add a personal touch.

  8. Practice, Practice, Practice: Finally, whatever song you choose, practice dancing to it a few times. You don’t want to trip over your own feet on the big day!
