Alternative Wedding Outfits

You’re engaged and working on all of your wedmin lists and you stumble as you get to the outfits. What the heck are you going to wear?

For some, it is easy. They were designing their dress as soon as they could pick up a crayon, and some gents may have always had a hankering to wear a classic Tux or Top Hat and tails.

But for others… Maybe they don’t want to wear a wedding dress or a suit. But that is what you are expected to wear right?! Well, blow expectations!

Personally I love something alternative, which reflects the couples perfectly. Mostly, I love it when people are comfortable on one of the best days of their lives!

So you don’t want the “traditional” outfit? Your dress code is “IDK, just vibe”? Great, have a look at some ideas, for those who don’t want the “norm”.

If you love a jumpsuit, there is no reason why you cannot wear one on your big day!

You can even ask a tailor to “bride-it-up” and add a train.

Note: remember jumpsuits can be a bit of a pain when needing the loo after a few glasses of champas. Best to get your bridesmaids onboard to help you out if you go with this option.

Trousers.

Brides, who says you have to wear a dress?

Trousers can be just as glamourous as a dress, and even give you the choice of changing tops throughout the day.

A top for the ceremony, reception and party! 3 outfits in one!

Major Bonus: Pockets!

On the two piece theme, what about a skirt?

If your issue with a wedding dress isn’t the skirt part, and you like a long flowy skirt, or a cute mini number, bridal separates allow for mixing and matching.

They also aren’t quite as restrictive as a dress.

Again you have the option of changing tops throughout the day.

Who says Tuxedo’s are for men?

A female tux is a classy and elegant outfit that is uber comfy to wear.

Dress it up with jacket and tie, then go a bit more casual in the evening by taking them off (and swinging the jacket round your head on the dance floor!)

I adore the idea of complementary tuxedos, (and you don’t just have to stick to black or white!)

Having your wedding ceremony on a beach in sunnier climes?

If you’re not the formal kind, then you can simply wear a nice swimsuit with a cooling kimono or kaftan over the top.

Minimises sweat mark risk and you’re ready to pop in the sea post ceremony for some awesome photos!

Maybe it is the colour white that doesn’t float your boat?

There is no rule that says your bridal outfit has to be white.

Your favourite colour can of course be the base for your outfit, why let the bridesmaids have all the colourful fun?!

For Him

Are suits boring? Then don’t wear one!

Maybe you want to wear a super fun shirt on your big day? I say Go For It!

Get your other half’s approval if going for something quite wild, as you may still want to match with the colour scheme and not take all the limelight.

Maybe it is the whole jacket malarky you find restrictive and stuffy?

You can opt for a waist coat on it’s own.

They give you a bit of freedom with a bit of polish to the look.

Hats n’ Cravats

You probably own ties and don’t wear them much anyway. Bet you don’t own and awesome bolo tie, dandy bow or cravat! Mixing up your neck wear is simple, cheap and an effective way of brining the grooms favourite design into the wedding day.

As for hats… If you have ever wanted to wear a hat but never found the right occasion… this is it!

Go with what makes you comfy… If that is a velvet tracksuit, then so be it.

It’s your day, do it your way.

If you’ve worn something alternative and unusual, I’d love to see pics!
