Pet Ceremonies

One of our best friends is Luna, we adore her and see her as a member of our family.

We have also loved Jack the cat, Corrie the collie, Coco the hamster and FlipFlop the fish, who have all left marks in our hearts.

We appreciate that the loss of a pet is quite unique to other losses from death. The grief is real, as our companions are not more or less meaningful in our lives than humans, they are just different.

Coming to terms with the loss of a pet can be very hard, for both adults and children, and I encourage you to be open with your family about your grieving. The process is normal and will happen gradually, in a very personal way to you.

Let’s also think positive about our pets and celebrate them.

Our pets are an extension of our family and as such deserve to be treated every now and again!

A pet funeral or celebration of life ceremony can help you and family members to be open about the feelings of loss and remember your loved pet with a memorable service. Perhaps you want to get younger family members to write some words, plant a tree or create a legacy to celebrate the life of your pet?

Embrace’s pet ceremonies are not religious and I love to work with all faiths.

A celebration or memorial ceremony can take place at a venue of your choosing, and can be as formal or relaxed and laid-back as you like. You can hire a venue, use outdoor space, the garden, a “special place” that reminds you of your pet… any venue is a possible

You can write your readings, or I can write these for you, though I often meet children who want to write their own, which is very touching.

I will be there to guide you through the ceremony, and support you throughout your planning journey.

What is offered for Pet Funeral or Pet Memorial Ceremonies?

  • Initial introduction call / email to arrange a detailed ceremony planning meeting (medium of your choice, though I do suggest in person)
  • Support with ideas and proofreading of readings and content
  • Creation of a customised personal ceremony script, with your input. I often suggest separate getting younger family members involved at this stage to help them understand grief and the mourning process
  • Unlimited edits of your service
  • Ongoing open communication including finalisation of ceremony logistics (this can include all parties involved)
  • Speaker for music on the day
  • Ceremony professionally performed on the day

Please remember: Your vet will be able to give you practical information linked to a burial or cremation ceremony. I am happy to liaise with your vet in terms of conducting this service. In the UK, it is legal to bury pets in a garden that you own. It isn’t legal to bury animals in the gardens of rented accommodation, any property that you don’t own, or in public places.
